Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP and Deputy National Organiser S.M. Marikkar says the current Government must go home as it is incapable of carrying out its duties.

“When the current president was appointed it was said he would receive international support and rebuild the country’s economy. But more than seven months. Has the economy revived? We have had to adapt to using a fuel quota, consume less food, and suffer through power cuts,” he said listing out the plethora of issues the people are now facing.

“Nothing has changed though Wickremesinghe was made president. All we have got is the ability to adapt,” he said.

The SJB MP noted that debt restructuring is yet to take place. Marikkar pointed out that Fitch ratings of 11 banks in the country have been downgraded. Marrikkar warned that this would lead to all letters of credit from Sri Lanka losing any recognition the world over.

“We will not be able to pay for medicine, essential food items, fertiliser and many other necessities,” he said. Marrikar said therefore the incapable Government must go home but instead they are now attempting to delay the polls.

He accused the Government of attempting various devious tactics to delay the election and violate the constitution. The MP said any excuse to delay polls will violate the country’s constitution.

“The only thing that awaits those who violate the constitution is prison,” he said.
