Marikkar discloses assassination plot targeting him in 2009

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP S.M. Marikkar speaking in Parliament yesterday accused the former Rajapaksa Government of conspiring to assassinate him in 2009. 

The MP asserted that on the day of journalist Lasantha Wickramatunge’s murder, he received a warning from an intelligence official. According to him, the official alleged that the Government at the time was plotting to assassinate him and advised him to go into hiding. 

Marikkar also claimed that a minister from the Government at the time intervened and thwarted the alleged scheme to assassinate him.

“Individuals responsible for the Easter attack and those who took the lives of journalists must be apprehended and subjected to the harshest punishment,” he said. 

The MP highlighted that the international community is now learning the truth behind the Easter attack.
