Metropolitan Engineering installs state-of-the-art YORK air conditioning solution at Morison Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility

Metropolitan Engineering (MEPL), a subsidiary of the Metropolitan Group, recently announced the completion of the full installation of central air conditioning units at Morison PLC’s newly opened state-of-the-art manufacturing plant and research and development facility.

The world renowned YORK-Branded chiller units and auxiliary equipment such as pumps, cooling towers, condenser tube auto cleaning systems were deployed at a total cooling capacity of 800 RT, which was installed, tested and commissioned by Metropolitan Engineering’s technical service teams across a period of 05 months. The impressive facility is located at the Sri Lanka Nanotechnology Park, Pitipana, Homagama. 

Morison PLC, a subsidiary of Hemas Holdings PLC, is the largest oral solid dosage pharmaceutical manufacturer in Sri Lanka. A pioneer in the local manufacture of pharmaceuticals, Morison’s new facility with an investment of $ 18.5 million, achieved a major milestone, being the first European Union-Good Manufacturing Practice (EU-GMP) compliant oral solid dosage manufacturing plant in Sri Lanka.   The plant was ceremoniously declared open under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The new plant is designed for minimum human intervention and includes cutting edge equipment such as fully automated liquid manufacturing and packing lines, fully-fledged chemical and microbiology labs, separate air handling units to control environmental conditions, and is also equipped with Enterprise Resource Planning software. The plant also has the first zero liquid discharge wastewater system in the country.

Metropolitan Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Assistant General Manager W.A.D.N. Indika, commenting on the project said: “State-of- the-art technical features, including uninterrupted backup power for control systems to ensure quick recovery of air-conditioning system operations during a power interruption were also put in place.” 

Further, Indika elaborated that power supply wiring with the installation of automated touch control panels throughout the facility were also part of the project scope that Metropolitan Engineering facilitated, while the company’s service division currently maintains the installed systems and equipment.
