Milk powder prices to go up

The Cabinet-appointed Cost of Living Committee has granted approval to increase the price of a kilogram of milk powder by Rs. 80.

The companies importing and distributing milk powder in Sri Lanka has requested the Consumer Affairs Authority to grant permission to raise the prices of powdered milk, due to the increase of prices in the world market.

Accordingly, the request has been forwarded to the Cost of Living Committee and the Consumer Affairs Authority has received the approval from the committee Friday (23 March).

Consumer Affairs Authority Director General D. Jeewananda says the Cost of Living Committee has approved increasing the price of all milk powder except infant formulas by Rs. 80 for a kilogram.

The relevant gazette notification will be issued this week.
