A group of UNP MPs have decided to move a No-Confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, UNP MP and State Irrigation Minister Palitha Range Bandara said yesterday.

Addressing a press briefing in Puttalam last afternoon, the Minister said that the UNP direly needed a leadership change, and that any cabinet reshuffle would be of no use if such a change is not made.

He said the party and its supporters needed and called for a change in the UNP leadership and called on Parliamentarians to support his motion.  “If we are to take our party forward, we must bring in a change to the Party leadership. Without such a change, there is no point in a cabinet reshuffle as it will resolve the problem at hand. Someone who cannot make a future for himself cannot make a future for the Party. This is not only the voice of the UNPers in Puttalam but of all UNP supporters in the country. I call on all parliamentarians not to think of only themselves, but to think of the Party and its future and support this motion,” Range Bandara said.

He said that he was not a lone voice and that he had the support of a majority of UNPers in this endeavour.
