Minister calls on GMOA to collaborate for health sector improvement

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) expressed its satisfaction with the appointment of the new Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, highlighting that the sector has now received a minister with substantial expertise in the field after a considerable period.

The GMOA expressed these sentiments during a discussion with the Minister held in Colombo yesterday. The Ministry said the discussion revolved around the salaries, transport allowances, promotions, training of Medical Officers and other topics including ongoing issues at medical faculties in the country. 

During the meeting, the new Minister assured the GMOA that he is committed to restoring public trust in the state health sector. He acknowledged the abundance of valuable human resources and assets within the system and expressed his confidence that rebuilding the sector would not be a challenging task.

Pathirana also expressed his willingness to make necessary decisions for the improvement of the sector, even if it means not being able to please all parties involved.

The Minister affirmed his commitment to ensuring that Medical Officers have the required facilities and maintain their professional dignity. He encouraged the GMOA to collaborate with him for the advancement of the sector.
