Mohan Peiris cleared by HPC to take up appointment in NY

Chief Justice Mohan Peiris 


 

The High Post Committee (HPC) of Parliament yesterday cleared the appointment of former Chief Justice Mohan Peiris as Sri Lanka’s new Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.

Peiris appeared before the Committee yesterday which met with Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena presiding.

Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Johnston Fernando, Douglas Devananda and Keheliya Rambukwella and MPs Rishad Bathiudeen and Sarath Fonseka were also present at the meeting. The HPC is tasked with examining the suitability of any person nominated for posts of secretaries to ministries, heads of missions abroad and chairpersons of selected corporations, etc.
