Mujibur urges unmasking of those who hindered investigations into Zahran

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Deputy General Secretary Mujibur Rahman addressing a press conference yesterday urged authorities to unveil the individual or group responsible for obstructing the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) from probing terrorist Zahran Hashim before he carried out the Easter Sunday attack. 

Rahman was referring to the recent statement by Ex-CID chief Ravi Seneviratne during a television interview in which he admitted that his agency was prevented from continuing its investigations into Hashim. However, during the interview, Seneviratne did not specify who was responsible for obstructing the CID’s investigation. 

“The person who led the group which obstructed the duties of the CID must be unmasked as it is evident he is the real mastermind of the attack,” he claimed. 

“Who hindered the progress of these investigations and collaborated with Zahran to facilitate the bombings?” Rahman asked. 

Rahman emphasised that this is the reason why various parties and concerned individuals are advocating for a fresh investigation into the Easter Sunday attack, which resulted in the tragic loss of at least 292 lives.

According to him, the reason for concealing intelligence information regarding Zahran Hashim is not a matter of great perplexity.

Rahman stressed the importance of a new investigation, citing the striking similarity between the statements made by whistleblower Azad Maulana who was featured in the Channel 4 documentary and Seneviratne.
