A total of 45,000 young people from nearly every country in the world gathered, standing side by side at the 24th World Scout Jamboree in wild and wonderful West Virginia. Scouts from over 150 countries arrived in North America to experience the trip and adventure of a lifetime. The 12-day learning adventure kicked off with a spectacular opening ceremony that inspired the massive crowd. Flag bearers from each country walked down through the audience proudly waving their flags onto the main stage, officially opening one of the largest and most culturally diverse events for young people.
From Sri Lanka out of thousands of applications only 214 got selected at the National Level on merits by the Sri Lanka Scout Association and only 150 could participate and out of it six Wesley College scouts were selected to participate in this very important event representing Sri Lanka.
Senior Scout Murthaaz Barry and Petrol Leader Nabeel Barry of 14th Colombo Scout Troop of Wesley College participated at this 24th World Scout Jamboree they kept the Wesley College flag very high with their discipline which was commendable by many high officials and their language skill which helped to promote the country and the Sri Lankan scout movement in the World Scout Jamboree.
Chief Ambassador of World Scouting, Bear Grylls made a surprise appearance on stage after spending time in adventure activities with Scouts and engaging in discussions with them about sustainability. During the show he urged Scouts to continue making a positive impact on the environment and the world at large.
World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) Secretary General Ahmad Alhendawi mentioned, “One service project at a time, Scouting is making communities stronger and more resilient, proving that impactful change comes from the actions individuals take on a daily basis.”
