Former Parliamentarian Mohamed Musthapha (Myown Musthapha) was deprived of his civil rights for seven years by the Colombo High Court yesterday.
Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabendi pronouncing his decisions of the bribery trial before Colombo High Court against Mustapa for offering Rs. 4,200,000 to National Freedom Front Member Mohamed Muzammil as a means of inducing him to support a common candidate of the Opposition, Sarath Fonseka during a Presidential Election, made this decision and deprived Musthapha from his civil rights.
The Judge observed that Musthapha is guilty of the charge of offering the bribe to Muzammil and also had violated certain sections of the Presidential Election Act.
Judge Patabendhi while depriving Musthapha of his civil rights further sentencing him for six months imprisonment with an additional fine of Rs. 500.
The Attorney General had indicted former Parliamentarian Mustapha at the Colombo High Court on charges of having offered Rs. 4,200,000 to National Freedom Front Member Mohamed Mazammil as a means of inducing him to support the common Opposition presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka during a Presidential Election.
Senior State Counsel Sudharshana De Silva appeared for the prosecution; Counsel Wasantha Weerasinghe PC defended Musthafa during the trial.
