The Fort Magistrate, in another case filed before the Court by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), ordered Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa to appear before Court if the CID files an indictment against him over the case on alleged financial misconduct alleged to have been committed by Rajapaksa while engaging in dealings in Krrish Transworks Square in Fort Colombo.

Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura yesterday made this order considering the submissions of President’s Counsel Sampath Mendis, who appeared with Muditha Lokumudali and Nissanka Pieris on behalf of Namal Rajapaksa.

The Counsel contended that there is an absurdity in this case since the CID had already filed a case which is pending before the Colombo High Court on the same issue.

The Magistrate inquired the CID officers whether they are filing a fresh indictment against Namal Rajapaksa in this case.

The CID officers answering the Magistrate informed the Court that they are presently conducting investigations on the matter.

Hence, the Magistrate ordered Rajapaksa to appear before Court if the CID files an indictment and also ordered the CID to seek the Attorney General’s opinion on this matter.

SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa, who is listed as a suspect in the matter and currently released on bail, appeared in Court yesterday.
