State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne stated that though he is on board with the formation of a National Government, he is not in favour of increasing the number of members in the Cabinet.
“The proposal to form a National Government is a tricky one, as it also proposes to increase the number of Cabinet Ministers, and it is my opinion that the number of Cabinet Ministers need not be increased unnecessarily,” Wickramaratne stated.
He made these statements at the historic public declaration of assets and liabilities event, which took place yesterday with the participation of four other MPs from different political parties.
Wickramaratne further made remarks about how when one is becoming a part of the Executive, there will be many conflicts of interest, and therefore, MPs should discontinue involvement in their business or their profession.
“It is my opinion that if you’re a Cabinet Minister then one should discontinue involvement in their business or their profession, and be independent, as you are a person who is involved in the decision-making processes with regards to many aspects of society.”
