The National Media Centre says that some media organisations and individuals are misinterpreting a statement issued by the US Embassy in Colombo and are falsely reporting the possibility of another terrorist attack.

In a statement, the Centre said that the rumour about another terrorist attack is completely false.

The US Embassy issued a travel advisory for US citizens touring Sri Lanka on Friday (2 August).

The National Media Centre stated that the publicity given by certain media organisations and individuals, wrongly interpreting the statement, saying that there will be another terrorist attack, is totally false.

Issuing a twitter message, US Ambassador in Sri Lanka Alaina B. Teplitz said that the travel advisory issued on Sri Lanka is a usual announcement.

“I understand media and others are focusing on our security notice for Sri Lanka. We regularly remind the traveling public of good practices around significant holidays and large public events,” the Ambassador tweeted.

The US had issued a level 2 advisory, ‘Exercise Increased Caution’, for US citizens traveling to Sri Lanka. A similar level of security advisory had been issued on many countries including India, Bangladesh, Maldives, France, Russia, Italy, China, Myanmar and Indonesia, the National Media Centre points out.
