Navy assists in raiding illegal cannabis cultivations

The Sri Lanka Navy during a raid has discovered two illegal cannabis cultivations at Galkaduwa area in Sithulpauwa.

The special combined raid was conducted by the Navy in coordination with the Wildlife Conservation Department on 30 December 2019. The first cultivation in about half an acre land was discovered, and 10kg of dried cannabis set for sale, 2kg of cannabis seed and a locally-made shotgun were also recovered.

During an extended search, another cannabis cultivation which was also about half an acre large, was found in close proximity to the previous one.

The 10kg of cannabis and 2kg of cannabis seed were destroyed by fire. Investigation on the shotgun is being conducted by the Department of Wildlife Conservation.
