New Chief of National Intelligence

Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya has been appointed as the Chief of National Intelligence by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. 

The newly appointed Chief of National Intelligence Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya (Retd.) received his letter of appointment from Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd.) on 1 January. Wanigasooriya succeeds Major General Ruwan Kulatunga.

Major Gen. Wanigasooriya began his military career when he was commissioned into the Artillery Regiment in 1986.

He also served as the spokesperson for the Sri Lanka Army.

During the humanitarian operation, he was assigned to command two brigades in the North and was appointed as the Volunteer Force Commander in 2020.

Major General Wanigasooriya retired from the Army in October, 2020.
