New members to be appointed to Parliament Committees

Speaker to chair selection committee

 Speaker Karu Jayasuriya is to chair a Committee of Selection to re-nominate parliamentarians to various parliamentary committees.

The Committee of Selection is to consist of 12 MPs and the relevant motion will be presented to Parliament by the Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella at the commencement of sittings today.

The prorogation of Parliament on 12 April left key parliamentary watchdog committees such as the Committee on Public Enterprise (COPE) and Public Accounts Committee (PAC) dissolved.

Accordingly, the Committee of Selection comprises the leaders of the political parties or their nominees and consists of MPs Rauff Hakeem, Lakshman Kiriella, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Rishad Bathiudeen, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Mano Ganesan, Dinesh Gunawardena, Douglas Devananda, Vijitha Herath, Mavai S. Senathirajah, Dharmalingam Sithadthan and Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa.    

The constituents of Parliament Select Committees, Sectoral Oversight Committees and Committee on High Posts are to continue without change. (SG)
