New set of guidelines for fuel transportation: Minister Kanchana

Power and Energy Minister yesterday announced that a new set of guidelines have been issued for fuel transportation.

“The capacity of fuel transportation to rural depots via railways will be increased from 40% to 100%,” the Minister Kanchana Wijesekera tweeted yesterday.

The new regulations also include steps to expedite the new license issuing process to from one month to one week while also introducing a separate line for collection bowsers of fuel station owners.

The Power and Energy Minister warned that operating licenses of transporters who fail to report to duty in the next two days will be cancelled.

He also said that legal action will be taken against absent transporters, whilst added that licenses of individuals who prevent others that want to report to work will be cancelled as well.

Minister Wijesekera has also revealed that the capacity and number of Government-owned bowsers which operate daily will be increased and will operate for the whole 24 hours in order to accommodate the excess demand.
