No new COVID-19 cases reported yesterday

Zero new COVID-19 cases were identified yesterday and the total number of confirmed cases remains unchanged at 3,271.

Of the total number of confirmed cases, 1,304 are Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and 54 are foreign arrivals. The local cases include 950 Navy personnel and their close contacts and 650 persons connected to the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 237 persons are currently receiving medical treatment at various hospitals, of which 89 are at the Welikanda Base Hospital and 84 are at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID). The active cases include 14 foreigners. There are also 43 persons suspected of having COVID-19 currently being monitored at various hospitals.

Five persons, including one foreigner, were discharged during the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. yesterday having recovered from COVID-19. Of the new recoveries, four persons were discharged from the Welikanda Base Hospital and one person was discharged from the NIID.

The country’s recovery rate is 92.36% with 3,021 recoveries and 13 COVID-19 related deaths bring the country’s fatality rate to 0.4%. In addition to this, 224 persons left quarantine centres yesterday having completed the process. The Sri Lanka Army states that 41,192 persons have left quarantine centres thus far and 6,255 persons are currently undergoing the process at 59 centres in the island.

The Sri Lanka Army added that 24 persons from Qatar and four persons from India arrived in the island yesterday and have been directed to quarantine centres.
