No new COVID-19 patients were identified for the second consecutive day yesterday and the total number of confirmed cases remains at 2,839. This includes both imported cases and local cases. According to the Epidemiology Unit, the imported cases include 939 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and 32 foreigners.
Of the local cases, 950 are Navy personnel and their close contacts and 605 are from the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre and their close contacts. The number of COVID-19 recoveries in the country rose to 2,564 with 23 new recoveries.
This includes 11 from the Kandakadu Treatment Centre, five from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), four from the Kattankudy Base Hospital, two from the Welikande Base Hospital, and one from the Colombo East Base Hospital. The Health Promotion Bureau states that the country’s recovery rate increased to 90.31% from 89.36% the previous day. With 11 deaths, the COVID-19 fatality rate is 0.39%.
The persons discharged during the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. yesterday brought down the number of active cases in the country to 264. The Epidemiology Unit states that 131 of them are currently receiving treatment at the Kandakadu Treatment Centre, 44 at the Welikande Base Hospital, and 42 at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital.
A further 13 patients are at the Panagoda Army Hospital, 10 are at the Iranawila Hospital, six are at the Kattankudy Base Hospital, and two are at the Colombo East Base Hospital. In addition to this, 38 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are being monitored at various hospitals, including seven at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital and six at the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Hospital.
Fifteen persons left quarantine centres managed by the Navy yesterday, including ten persons from the Boossa Quarantine Centre and five from the Kalpitiya Quarantine Centre. According to a statement issued by the Navy, 75 persons are currently undergoing quarantine at the centre in Boossa while 15 are undergoing quarantine in Kalpitiya.
