Northern Province Governor Jeevan Thiagarajah
Northern Province recently reached out to Singapore and Malaysia for socio-economic support following a visit by Governor Jeevan Thiagarajah.
“Opportunities for labour market access in Singapore and Malaysia through our respective High Commissions in both countries is ongoing. Already vacancies in Singapore have been advertised on the Facebook page of the Governor’s office,” he said. Since the President announced an invitation for overseas universities to set up in Sri Lanka conversations have taken place with Nanyang University Singapore and with potential investments from Malaysia.
According to the Governor, the Northern Province health service will benefit from very close collaboration with Singhealth, Singapore. Private investors including Four Seasons hotels will critically evaluate opportunities. Assembling solar panels is another area of interest.
Historically since the time of the First World War people travelled to Malaya, current Malaysia and Singapore. Third and fourth generation nationals from both countries are keen to reconnect with their roots. One such group is Jaffna-Junction.
“In the coming weeks and months these conversations will be taken to the next level,” Thiagarajah added.
