OPA condemns Easter Sunday terror attacks

The Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPA) in a statement yesterday expressed its profound sorrow and deep sympathies to all those who had tragically lost their near and dear ones brutally killed in the suicide bomb attacks at places of worship and hotels on Easter Sunday.

The statement issued by OPA President Eng. Nissanka Perera also said: We also wish to express our revulsion to the perpetrators of this heinous deed. We stress that the Government is bounden to ensure the safety of every single citizen, and should take serious note of the lapses that led to such a terrorist attack leading to unprecedented loss of life and injury.

We urge the Government to bring all perpetrators, not only those deemed active but those who have assisted, provided safe shelter, and created the avenues for such types of mass murder weapons to be brought into the country.

It is also our considered view that under the provisions of the constitution of Sri Lanka, elected representatives are answerable to the very people who elected them and if any one of them had prior information of the attacks, either through official channels or otherwise, then everyone who had received such prior information are guilty of not directing the state security and law enforcement agencies to protect the people.

The OPA – the apex body comprising 51 member associations – also takes this opportunity to commend the tri forces for their massive effort in rooting out those who were responsible.
