A 24-year-old individual attempting to smuggle a kilo of heroin concealed in his luggage was arrested in Settikullum, Vavuniya.

The estimated street value of the heroin is Rs. 10 million. 

The suspect had disowned his luggage and attempted to evade Army personnel at the check point when questioned. He was arrested by the Police and had revealed he had transported another consignment of narcotics on the same route before.    

The suspect is to be produced before the Mannar Magistrate. Police are continuing investigations.
