One dead, over 70,000 affected due to heavy rains

Due to the heavy rainfall across the country, 77,670 persons belonging to 22,532 families have been affected, with one death reported, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said yesterday.

DMC Media and Public Relations Assistant Director Janaka Handunpathiraja, stated that these individuals and families have been impacted in 103 Divisional Secretariat Divisions across 15 Districts.

Five injuries have been reported. Six houses were completely damaged and 265 houses partially damaged.

As a result of the disaster 2,770 persons from 821 families have been relocated to 35 safe locations, he added.
