A one-time illicit liquor selling woman in her fundamental rights petition laments that although she has started a new life as a respecting law-abiding citizen without engaging in illicit deeds, certain Police officers with evil insinuations and false charges are implicating and harassing her and her family members.

Aggrieved petitioner Nirmala Kanthi’s petition was taken before a Bench comprising Justices B.P. Aluvihara, Praasanna S. Jayawardena and Gamini Amarasekera on 19 December.

As the Medical Legal Report was not available to the petitioner, the Court directed the Gampaha District General Hospital to make available the said Report to the petitioner on or before 31 January and fixed the matter for 28 May.

Counsel Himalee Kularathna appearing for the petitioner brought to the notice of the Court that the petitioner had been threatened even after she filed her petition. The Court directed the Counsel to file it by way of a motion.

The petitioner cited Constable Lakmal, OIC A.L. Senanayake, Sub Inspectors Dilum Ratnayake and Sumith Priyantha as well as Acting IGP and Attorney General as Respondents.
