Speaking during the debate on Port City Economic Commission Bill in the House, Premadasa said that instead of gagging those who spoke on the issue, there must be public discussion on the pandemic including in Parliament.

“It is opportune for Parliament to discuss the pandemic at a time when the highest number of COVID 19 patients and deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours instead of the Port City Bill. One can understand how the Government deals with the pandemic when considering the order made by the Health Minister to all State medical personnel not to talk of the current pandemic situation,” Premadasa said.
