Over 50% of the country’s total population have received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, Cabinet Co-Spokesperson Dullas Alahapperuma yesterday said.
He added that Sri Lanka was one of the few countries that has vaccinated over 50% of its total population.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 89.3% of the population over the age of 30 has received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. Second dose coverage exceeds 90% in the Gampaha, Galle, Polonnaruwa, Hambantota, Matale, and Ratnapura Districts.
Vaccination of persons in the 20 to 29 age category is also currently taking place and 36.2% have received the first dose of a vaccine, while 12.3% have received both doses of a vaccine. According to Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, a decision on vaccinating school students will be made at a discussion to be held today, where it will be decided if students in Grade Seven to Grade 13 or students in preschool to Grade Six should be vaccinated first.
A total of 13,553,534 persons have received the first dose of a vaccine and 10,762,627 persons have received the second dose as well.
On Monday, 147,114 persons received a COVID-19 vaccine dose, including 51,798 persons who received the first dose of Sinopharm and 88,700 persons who received the second dose of Sinopharm. The first dose of Sinopharm has been administered to a total of 10,731,466 persons, of which 8,737,393 persons have received the second dose as well.
The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 1,441,259 persons and the second dose has been administered to 893,024 persons. On Monday, 3,194 persons received the first dose of AstraZeneca and 839 persons received the second dose of the vaccine.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 353 persons received the first dose of Pfizer on Monday and 385 persons received the second dose of Pfizer on Monday. A total of 448,735 persons have received the first dose of Pfizer and 240,954 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine as well.
30 persons received the first dose of Moderna on Monday, raising the number of persons to receive the first dose of the vaccine to 772,985. The second dose of Moderna has been administered to 757,806 persons, of which 1,815 persons received the vaccine on Monday.
The first dose of Sputnik V has been administered to 159,089 persons and 43,450 persons have received the second dose as well.
