Education Minister and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya yesterday urged all schools to immediately stop inviting politicians to their school events.

Speaking at an event organised by the Education Ministry, she said that inviting politicians to schools distracts students from the educational focus and risks politicising the school environment.

She also stressed on the need for transparency in filling teacher vacancies and urged that the process be conducted properly to build public trust.

Addressing students’ mental health, she noted that the current generation faces significant challenges, including the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis, which have increased the stress levels among students. Minister also called for a swift and fair resolution to the recent Grade 5 scholarship exam paper leak, assuring that no harm would befall the affected students. She stressed the need for an independent report on the matter and instructed the Examinations Department to release all delayed exam results promptly.
