PM commends China for continued support to SL

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Wednesday commended the Government of China for the continued support provided to Sri Lanka.

He made this emphasis when Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong paid a courtesy call at Temple Trees.

Prime Minister Rajapaksa thanked the Government of China for supporting Sri Lanka for providing vaccines in the fight against the COVID pandemic.

Ambassador Zhenhong congratulated Sri Lanka for the successful administration of the vaccines and reassured continued support. 

He also highlighted that China had provided assistance in the way of medical supplies, vaccines and for overall financial support from the beginning of the pandemic. 

The Ambassador said that the bilateral currency swap agreement between the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), amounting to Yuan 10 billion would help reinforce global investor sentiments and enhance confidence in Sri Lanka’s economy.

Ambassador Zhenhong noted that the year 2022 would be an important year in the Sri Lanka-China bilateral relationship as it would mark the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Rubber-Rice Pact.

The Ambassador also conveyed advanced birthday wishes to Prime Minister Rajapaksa from both the Chinese President and the Premier.
