PM says LPG shortage will be eased by early August

Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe yesterday assured that the domestic LP gas shortage will be eased by the end of this month or early next month.

Speaking in parliament, the Premier said since 33,000 metric tons of gas is to be received from July 11 to the first week of August, the current shortage of gas will disappear by the end of July or the first week of August.

The Prime Minister also said that from July 11 or 12, 112,000 gas cylinders will be continuously distributed daily throughout the island. Prime Minister Wickramasinghe said it is planned to distribute LP gas at 140 locations in Colombo on July 11 and 12, and 140,000 cylinders of 12 kg domestic gas will be distributed at 100 cylinders each within two days.

The Prime Minister said later 25,000 cylinders of 12 kg, which is the daily requirement of Colombo city, will be released and the release of gas for bakeries and small scale businesses will also be done simultaneously. The Prime Minister said that all these plans may be subject to changes depending on the weather and the nature of the sea, but he is confident that gas can be provided for the next 4 months without shortage.
