  • Calls on electricity users to promptly inform PUCSL if power cuts are beyond stipulated time

The Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL) yesterday approved a request by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to cut power today, given the shortage of fuel to operate the oil-fired plants.

Four-hour and 40 minute power cuts will be imposed in areas A, B and C, whilst five-hour and 15 minute power cuts will be imposed in other areas due to the inability of power plants to operate due to the fuel shortage.

As per the schedule, two hours and 40 minute power cut will be imposed between 8.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m., while a two-hour power cut will be imposed between 4.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. in A, B, and C areas, whilst a two hour and 45 minute power cut will be imposed between 8.30 a.m. and 4.45 p.m., while a two hour and 30 minute power cut will be imposed between 4.45 p.m. and 9.45 p.m. for P, Q, R, S, T, U, V and W areas.

PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake called on the public to inform the Commission if there is a power cut beyond the stipulated time.

“The relevant area, the time of the power cut should be mentioned accurately and the complaint should be submitted promptly,” he said.
