Electricity regulator, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) yesterday granted approval for scheduled power cuts for today (22).

The move was in response to a request made from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) yesterday.

PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said the decision was made after considering the available data on energy resource and in the absence of required quantities of fuel to operate 541 MW oil-fired plants.

Thereby, a two-hour power cut from 4.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. will affect groups A, B, and C, and three hours for the other groups.

Ratnayake also pointed out that they will have to review the requests of the CEB on a daily basis, as there are no sufficient quantities of required energy sources.
