Electricity regulator Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has requested Indian High Commission’s intervention to secure sufficient diesel stock to maintain uninterrupted power supply during Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

“Sri Lankans are celebrating Sinhala and Tamil New Year during 13 and 14 April and as the regulator of electricity industry, it is our responsibility to ensure uninterrupted power supply for the country during this period. Therefore, the Commission expects your intervention in securing a diesel stock of 37,000 tons on 10 or 11 April 2022 through Indian credit line for fuel,” the PUCSL Chairman Janaka Rathnayake requested in a letter.

The Commission also conveyed its sincere thanks for the Government of India and the High Commission of India for the assistance extended towards Sri Lanka, by providing necessary fuel to maintain power supply.

“PUCSL will be most grateful to the Government of India and people of India for extending the much-needed support to maintain uninterrupted power supply for the people of Sri Lanka.”
