Pakistan extends its continued support to Sri Lanka in its march towards economic revival, State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe said.

“Pakistan Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar reassured their continuous support and cooperation to Sri Lanka to overcome the economic turmoil,” he said, after he returned from the successful conclusion of the Sustainable Development Goals Forum held in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The State Minister participated in the sixth South and South-West Asia Forum on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Pakistan.

During this forum, State Minister Semasinghe held bilateral discussions with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) Secretary Dr. Armida Salsia Alizjabana, Pakistan Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Planning and Development and Reform Minister Prof. Ahsan Iqbal.

The three-day forum was organised by the UNESCAP and the Government of Pakistan hosted the Sixth South and South West Asia Forum on Sustainable Development from 5-7 December in Islamabad with the theme ‘Accelerating the recovery from COVID-19 and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels’.

The objective of the forum was to create a deeper and shared understanding among member States and multi-stakeholders on the opportunities for accelerating the implementation of strategies at the sub-regional levels, with a particular focus on the many important areas of the 2030 Agenda.

“The effects of the global economic challenges faced by all countries across the region and the future measures to overcome those challenges were discussed. The importance of a collective regional approach to reducing the economic and various global challenges currently faced by the regional countries was also discussed,” State Minister Semasinghe said.
