The Common Political Alliance of Alternative Forces yesterday declared well-known businessman Rohan Pallewatta as their presidential candidate.
Speaking to media, Pallewatta said he would contest under the National Development Front and his symbol will be the coconut. He noted he has the capability to lead the country to prosperity.
“A leader has to have vision and understanding to address national issues. I believe I have a responsibility to serve the nation. I was born in this country and I will die in this country,” he said.
He pointed out that the country’s debt should be re-structured to repay the heavy debt burden. He noted that the national interest would be the basis of his governing strategy. According to Pallewatta, alternative political forces are the best solution for the prevailing conventional political culture, which will address the existing challenges of the country. He said he would not back the slogan to abolish the Executive Presidency, as according to him, the Executive Presidency will help to address the existing challenges of the country.
