Parliament sittings confined to Question Time today 

Parliament sittings will be confined to Question Time today, the Committee on Parliamentary Business, which met yesterday under the patronage of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, has decided.

The decision to restrict the sitting hours came amidst growing fears of a resurgence in COVID-19 in the country and rumours circulating on social media of a family member of a Parliament staffer having tested COVID-19 positive. However, Speaker Abeywardena said there was no truth to these rumours.He said that the office of the Parliament Service Unit under the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Council in Pelawatte, Battaramulla had informed that access for MPs and other individuals was not permitted yesterday due to suspicion that a relative of an employee had contracted COVID-19.
