Parliament to debate key CB and Fin. Min. economic reports next week

  • CB annual report, Mid-Year Fiscal Position and Pre-Election Budgetary Position reports to get House attention 
  • Party leaders decide to take up four reports for debate on Tuesday
  • Arumugam Thondaman condolence vote next Friday

The Annual Report of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) for the year 2019, Annual Report of the Ministry of Finance (2019), Mid-Year Fiscal Position Report and the Pre-Election Budgetary Position Reports for 2020 will be taken up for debate in Parliament next Tuesday.

The government will hold an adjournment debate to discuss these reports, Party leaders decided yesterday at a Party Leaders’ meeting chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

The House will debate regulations under the Excise (Special Provisions Act) and ten notifications under the Excise Ordinance on Wednesday 9 September while on Thursday 10 September the House will debate six notifications under the Ports and Airport Development Levy Act, three regulations and six resolutions under the Customs Ordinance.

A Vote of Condolences on late MP Arumugam Thondaman, former Minister and Leader of the Ceylon Workers’ Congress, will be taken up on Friday 11 September.
