On 18 July, the Sri Lankan Parliament will hold an adjournment debate on the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, following a request made by opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.

Premadasa had requested the debate during the Parliamentary Affairs Committee meeting chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena held last week.  At the meeting, the opposition leader had expressed his concern that Sri Lanka, despite considering Palestine a friendly country, has not yet declared its stance on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country.

The request for the adjournment debate was approved by the Speaker. Accordingly, it will take place from 1:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. on the day.

Premadasa will open the debate. It is expected that members of the Sri Lanka Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Association, as well as ambassadors from Arab countries in Sri Lanka, foreign ambassadors, and high commissioners, will be in attendance.
