United Lanka Podujana Party (Eksath Lanka Podujana Pakshaya) Chairman and Secretary were yesterday ordered to be remanded until 27 August for allegedly soliciting a bribe from the party’s Presidential candidate former PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake.
Six other suspects arrested in connection with the incident have been ordered released on personal bails of Rs. 2 million each.
On Wednesday a group of officials of the party including its Secretary were arrested by the officers of the Bribery Commission while accepting a bribe of Rs. 30 million from Ratnayake, the party’s Presidential candidate.
The suspects were arrested based on a complaint lodged by Ratnayake, on behalf of whom the security deposit was placed last morning as the party’s Presidential candidate.
