Pavithra calls for comprehensive plan to boost agricultural production

The recently appointed Minister of Irrigation, Pavithradevi Wanniarachchi yesterday emphasised the necessity of developing a plan to enhance the nation’s agricultural production in the upcoming year.

The Minister emphasised the need for a particular prominence on paddy production. She suggested the development of both short-term and long-term work plans to address the challenges faced by the entire farming community, including those in Mahaweli areas. Wanniarachchi made these comments after commencing duties at the Ministry yesterday morning. The Minister accepted the appointment and the relevant documentation was handed over to the Secretary of the Ministry U.D.C. Jayalal. She was appointed as the new Minister for Irrigation on Monday after President Ranil Wickremesinghe dismissed former Minister Roshan Ranasinghe from the post. 

The Minister further engaged in a meeting with the ministry officials to discuss the forthcoming work program. She urged the officials to collaborate effectively as a Ministry and extend their complete support to her in her role as the Minister.

State Minister of Irrigation Shashindra Rajapaksa, State Minister Siripala Gamlath, Polonnaruwa District Member of Parliament Jagath Samarawickrama and others were also present at the event.
