Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe

A public petition calling for the disbarment of interdicted Solicitor General Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe as an Attorney-at-Law, and initiation of criminal proceedings against her, has been submitted to the Attorney General’s Department.

The petition has been submitted to the Attorney General’s Department Public Petitions Unit by S.K.M. Aruna Silva last week. Copies of the petition has been sent to President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Solicitor General Sanjay Rajaratnam, Minister of Justice Thalatha Atukorale, Bribery Commission Director General Sarath Jayamanne, Chairman of the Public Service Commission, Bar Association of Sri Lanka and Transparency International.

The petition states that Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe had breached the public trust while holding office as the second most senior official at the Attorney General’s Department, conspired with Avant-Garde Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi, who is facing multiple high-profile criminal charges, and abused her position as Bribery Commission Director General and the Solicitor General, to file charges based on political and personal motives.

“During the telephone conversation, between the interdicted Solicitor General and Senadhipathi, Wickramasinghe further suggests that the Attorney General’s Department has been politicised and several cases have been filed based on political whim and fancy. She further goes on to state, ‘I know how to make the law and break the law,’ which brings into question whether Wickramasinghe violated the laws of the land, and committed or conspired to commit criminal acts, while holding the second highest office in the official bar. Her acknowledgement of having a telephone conversation with Nissanka Senadhipathi, and the specific details in their conversation goes beyond the matter of conflict of interests, as it is quite evident that she has committed an act against the State, by undoubtedly aiding and abetting a most wanted individual, who is accused of multiple criminal acts,” the petition states.

“The interdicted Solicitor General Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe has set a precedent that undermines the integrity of the state judicial mechanism and the legal profession. I urge your high office to act promptly in expelling Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe from the legal profession, and initiate criminal  investigations, as it is clearly evident that she violated the oath taken as an Attorney-at-Law, brought disrepute to the Attorney General’s Department and have been engaged in corrupt activities. This is the first time in the illustrious history of the Attorney General’s Department and the Bribery Commission that such damning allegations are coming to light. Wickramasinghe needs to be held accountable, and this is an opportunity for the Attorney General’s Department to protect its reputation and integrity, which has been tarnished by her corrupt and unscrupulous acts. The entire nation awaits for the Attorney General’s Department to uphold the law without any delays and biases,” the petition further states.
