Following the Supreme Court’s interim order to stay dissolution of parliament by the President Maithripala Sirisena, Police chief Pujith Jayasundera, expecting disruptive activities by some parties, has instructed the senior police officers to increase security in all areas of the island.
The Inspector General of Police issued the directive in a special police message Tuesday night.
In the message, the IGP has pointed out that, with the announcement of the court verdict, while elated supporters of some parties are celebrating the court’s decision, some political supporters may engage in sabotage activities with the intention of achieving narrow objectives.
The IGP had instructed the senior officers to make security arrangements to ensure that the day-to-day activities of the people are not hindered by such sabotage activities.
The IGP has instructed the Senior DIGs to provide a report within two days regarding the measures taken to ensure security in their police areas.
