Police issue new curfew regulations

The Police curfew which was yesterday extended to Colombo, Puttalam and Gampaha districts have been broadened to five districts in the North as the Government ramps-up efforts to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Mannar, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi and Jaffna districts will also remain under curfew till 6 a.m. on Tuesday and will see the curfew reimposed at 2 p.m. that afternoon. The duration of the curfew after 2 p.m. on Tuesday will be notified later, said the Police issuing a press release.

The curfew imposed under the regulations and provisions of the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance is intended to prevent the spread of the virus.

The Police stress that cargo vehicles transporting food and essential supplies to retail outlets will be able to in curfew zones unhindered and that those who are travelling to the airport for departure can use their ticket as a curfew pass.

Members of the press, farmers, cultivators and those involved in the export crop industries such as tea have also been exempted from curfew regulations, the press release stated.
