The Police Department yesterday launched an operation aimed at removing political party or candidate promoting material prior to the 5 August General Election.

The Police said the Acting IGP has issued instructions to all Police divisions, calling on them to enforce the regulations of the Parliamentary Elections Act of 1981.

Under the regulations, election posters, painted signs, leaflets, pictures, flags and party decorations are banned and will be removed or dismantled by the Police.  The Police will set up road blocks to check vehicles and begin mobile patrols to remove political campaign material. Mobile truck mounted high-pressure spray units will also be employed to remove campaign posters off walls.
