Police recover Zahran’s laptop

A laptop computer suspected to have been used by alleged the mastermind behind the Easter Sunday attacks Zahran Hashim was recovered by Police yesterday.

The laptop was found in Palamunai Lagoon in Akkaraipattu, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said in a video statement. 

He said Police had seized Rs. 5 million in cash suspected to have been hidden by Zahran’s Ampara District Leader Shahul Hameed Hamis Mohamed alias Kalmunai Siyam alias Abuhassan.

“Based on information received by the National Intelligence Service officials of Ampara Police Division, Police arrested Shaul Hameed on 22 May from Kalmunai,” he said.

Following further questioning, Police had found Rs. 500,000 and Rs. 1 million in two different instances, Gunasekara said. He said the remaining Rs. 3.5 million had been discovered yesterday.

Gunsekara said the suspect had provided four safe houses for Zahran for his operations and explosives were recovered by police from a safe house in Sennal in Sammanthurai provided by the suspect.
