Police to recruit 2,000 officers from the North

  • 400 women constables and 1,400 constables among the recruits

The Police Department plans to recruit 2,000 Police officers from the Northern Province this year in line with the Government’s policy. 

The policy was outlined in President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s policy manifesto, titled ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’.

As part of the State institutions restructuring program initiated by the President, 200 inspectors of police, 400 women constables, and 1,400 constables will be recruited, the Police Media Unit said in a press release.

The move is part of the Government’s plan to enhance law and order and ensure national security the press release added. The new recruits are to be trained in Police training centres in the Northern Province. The need for Tamil-speaking Police officers with local knowledge has been a long-felt need island-wide.
