Power and Energy Minister extend support to implement UN-assisted programs in SL

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera assured United Nations Resident Coordinator Hanaa Singer-Hamdy to provide the required fuel quantities for food security relief programs and humanitarian programs.

He assured this during a discussion held with UN officials at the Ministry premises on Thursday. 

Minister Wijesekera extended the fullest cooperation of the Power and Energy Ministry to support the successful implementation of all financially assisted United Nations programs in the country.

Separately, the Minister also updated on the fuel availability and unloading process.

As per him, 37,000 tons of 92 Octane Petrol, 100,000 tons of crude oil and 40,000 tons of diesel shipments have been procured already, whilst 40,000 tons of diesel cargo are yet to be paid for.

“One 37,000 ton Petrol 92 cargo and one 100,000 ton crude oil cargo will commence unloading today (Friday),” he said via Twitter.

Minister Wijesekera also said 40,000 tons of diesel shipment commenced the unloading process two days ago (Wednesday), noting that it will likely complete unloading by today morning (Saturday).

In addition, he said one more 40,000 tons diesel shipment is to be released upon payment.
