President Sirisena was featured among a selected number of leaders in the official welcoming book published for the CHOGM distributed among invitees, delegates and the journalists gathered from around the world for the CHOGM ‘18 held in London from the 16th to the 20th.

Titled ‘Commonwealth – Heads of Government Meeting 2018 Report’, it included perspectives from Royalty; Charles, Prince of Wales, Sultan of Brunei, and politicians, with the heads of UK, Malta, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, ex PM of Australia Julia Gillard and Prime Ministers of Bahamas, Dominicas, Fiji, Mauritius, Ghana Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda and Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Articles and interviews of heads of leading organisations were also included on their take on the Commonwealth.

President Sirisena’s account in the magazine was on a “pathway to a sustainable future” on the same lines that he spoke on the last day of the Business Forum when he delivered the keynote address ‘Delivering the SDGs: Aligning Business, Society and the Governments’, which was reported in these columns.

He reiterates his call to urgently address sustainable development issues that threaten life on this one planet that all countries – rich and poor, small and large – have to share and call home.

And he emphasises that it is the duty of each generation to leave a better country and a world to our children.

“I view the 2030 development Agenda not merely as a document agreed to by all world leaders but as a sacred covenant between our generation and the next,” he states in his article given to the magazine.
