President appoints 13 new High Court Judges

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed 13 new High Court Judges, the President’s Media Division said yesterday. 

The new High Court Judges received their letters of appointment from President Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday.

Newly appointed High Court Judges include; A.G. Aluthge (previously District Court Judge), R.R.J.U.T.K. Rajakaruna (previously District Court Judge), R.A.D.U.N. Ranatunga (previously Magistrate Court Judge), T.M.C.S. Gunasekara (previously District Court Judge), M. Prabath Ranasinghe (previously District Court Judge), R.M.S.B. Chandrasiri (previously Chief Magistrate Court Judge), R. Weliwatta (previously District Court Judge), G.L. Priyantha (previously Magistrate Court Judge), A. Nishantha Peiris (previously District Court Judge), S.M.A.S. Manchanayake (previously District Court Judge), L. Chamath Madanayake (previously District Court Judge), V.M. Weerasuriya (previously Senior State Counsel) and H.A.D.N. Hewawasam (previously Senior State Counsel).

The new High Court Judges have been appointed on the basis of seniority. 

President Rajapaksa stated that he expected to see the preservation of the independence of the judiciary, ensuring the rule of law in the country, and taking action to prevent delays in Court proceedings.
