President commends service rendered by National Mediation Boards to build reconciled society

President Maithripala Sirisena says the service rendered by the members of the National Mediation Boards to build a reconciled society is laudable. He made these remarks addressing a ceremony to mark National Mediation Day held at Temple Trees, Wednesday (3).

Addressing the event, the President further said when the feeling of unity and collectivity diminishes in a society, disharmony and indiscipline start spreading. The National Mediation Boards have rendered an excellent service by creating a positive mental attitude in the people to live in peace and harmony, adhering to religious philosophy, while settling disputes lawfully was appreciated by the President.  

President Sirisena further stated that everyone should fulfil their respective responsibilities from top to bottom as well as at the village level to eliminate waste, stealth, corruption and misuse that are entrenched in the society.

Annually, the National Mediation Day is celebrated to felicitate the Mediation Board members. 

The new website of Mediation Boards Commission (www.mediation.com) was also launched by the President. Seven mediators were specially felicitated for rendering their service since the establishment of the Mediation Boards in 1991. The Chairman of the Mediation Boards Commission retired High Court Judge Hector Yapa presented the official handbook of Mediation Boards to President Maithripala Sirisena.

Minister Thalatha Atukorala, Members of Parliament, Wijepala Hettiarachchi, Attorney-General Jayantha Jayasooriya, Acting Secretary of Ministry of Justice Piyumanthi Peiris, Chairman of the Mediation Boards Commission retired High Court Judge Hector Yapa, Secretary of Mediation Boards Commission Rajini Attapattu, and other invitees were present at this event.
