President extends best wishes for Exercise ‘Cormorant Strike VIII – 2017’

President Maithripala Sirisena has extended his best wishes for the Army-pioneered mock Exercise ‘Cormorant Strike VIII – 2017’ at Kuchchaveli, Trincomalee.

This Exercise was commenced on 3 September with the participation of 2,108 infantrymen and mechanised infantrymen, inclusive of 370 sailors and 197 airmen and, the Exercise, made up largely of Army Commandos and Special Forces has attracted a total of 69 foreign military service personnel, representing 13 countries, either as participants in the operation or as observers.

The Exercise is aimed at enhancing the preparation, operational readiness and efficiency of Special Operational Forces.

Meanwhile, President Sirisena watched the proceedings of the Exercise from his official residence through a multimedia network and interacted with the participants in the Exercise giving encouragement to them this morning.

The President said that the dignity of the Sri Lankan Army is valued locally as well as internationally as it is a highly disciplined force in the world and pointed out that this kind of exercises are important when moving forward with the new technical war strategies and techniques.

The President extended his thankfulness to all the members of the Sri Lankan Army and the foreign military personnel who participated at this ‘Cormorant Strike VIII – 2017’.
